What it does
The Component That Does the Filtering
Filter bags are the working surface of a baghouse. Dust collects as a cake on the outside, clean gas passes through, and pulse cleaning periodically releases the cake back into the hopper.
Media choice decides filter life more than any other single factor: fabric type sets the temperature and chemical limits, finish and treatment set how readily the cake releases, and membrane options set the efficiency on fine particulate.
Symptoms that point to the bags
- Differential pressure climbing steadily and not returning to baseline after cleaning
- Visible emission from the stack, particularly a puff timed with the pulse cycle
- Dust found in the clean air plenum
- Bag life consistently shorter than expected for the duty
Short bag life is usually a symptom, not a defect. Before re-ordering the same media, it is worth checking air-to-cloth ratio, pulse pressure, and inlet gas distribution. A site assessment will find it.

Media options
Common Fabrics
Polyester
The general-purpose option. Good abrasion resistance, moderate temperature limit, poor resistance to strong acids and hydrolysis.
PPS (Ryton)
Excellent chemical resistance in acidic conditions with moderate temperature capability. Common on coal-fired and chemical duty.
Aramid (Nomex)
Higher temperature capability with good abrasion resistance. Sensitive to hydrolysis and strong acids.
Fibreglass
The high-temperature option, typically with PTFE or acid-resistant finish. Low flex life, so cleaning must be gentle.
PTFE membrane
A laminated surface layer that shifts filtration to the membrane face, improving fine particulate capture and cake release on any base fabric.
Food-grade
FDA-compliant materials and finishes for direct and indirect food contact applications.
